How My Science-Based Dog Training
can help You & Your Dog.

My name is Nikolai.
I'm a Swiss-Norwegian Dog Trainer & Behaviourist based in Perthshire.

I'm an animal lover passionate about the Science of Canine Cognition and the Human–Canine Bond.

My approach to helping you with your dog is by providing you with the most up-to-date, Research-Backed, Positive, & Humane Dog-Training methods. By having this knowledge, you'll have a greater understanding of how your dog thinks, learns, and their basic needs to live a healthy, happy, and stress-free life.

I will help you resolve any existing challenging behaviours and prevent new problematic behaviours throughout your dog's life by training you to become your dog's own Dog-Trainer.

If you're wondering why you need to become your own dog's Dog-Trainer, you'll find more information about that below.

How Our Behavior Affects Our Dog’s Behavior

Every moment of the day we or any other family member spends interacting with our dog, whether at home or out on a walk, will significantly impact our dogs' behaviour.

How we communicate and respond to our dog in a specific situation will determine whether we encourage or discourage a determined behaviour. But also, to understand whether our dog is relaxed and comfortable in a particular environment or condition and knowing how to respond if our dog is not calm is essential, as using the wrong techniques could increase the dogs' insecurities and lead to further behavioural challenges.

Most dog behavioural challenges I see start from miscommunication between owner and dog because the owner, unfortunately, has gathered information from unreliable sources or hasn't read vital signs.

How unreliable Dog-Training Techniques will affect your dog's behaviour.

It saddens me to hear from some of my clients that in 2022 they have still been advised to use Dog-Training Techniques that either worsen the behaviour problem they are trying to resolve or give the dog a new behavioural problem.

The most common example I can give is when my clients have been told to jerk on their dogs' lead if their dog gets overexcited when seeing other dogs barking and lunging towards them. Every modern research shows that this technique only results in the dog getting fearful of other dogs and potentially leading to aggression. Almost every client I see with a dog that has developed lead reactivity towards other dogs has been trained this old fashioned way and is the perfect example of a client that has been advised to use techniques that comes from unreliable sources.

Another typical example I can give is when the dog owner is trying to train the dog to not pull on the lead and has been advised to use unpleasant techniques that are uncomfortable for the dog or even inflict pain in worse case scenarios. With this training method, the only result you'll achieve is that the dog starts refusing to go for walks.

The bottom line is that your dog doesn't process the information the same way as you do.

I believe that it is vital for every dog owner to have the minimum knowledge of how dogs process their information and learn, and that's why Dog-Training Theory is such a big part of my Dog Training.

My Background and Experience in Working with Dogs

I’m a Swiss-Norwegian dog trainer and behaviourist with almost 20 years experience working with dogs.

As an animal lover, it saddens me that some of the dog training methods used in this country aren`t proven by science and worse that they are inhumane and cause suffering to dogs, potentially leading to fearful, avoidant behaviour and future problems with aggression.

My passion for dog training is as much about promoting the wellbeing of dogs and helping dog owners to ensure they have healthy and happy dogs as it is about obedience training.

I began my dog training and behaviour studies in Norway with Norwegian dog trainer & behaviourist Lisbeth Borg de Waard, a huge advocate of dog wellbeing and positive reinforcement training methods and the founder of International Dog Trainer School and Nordic Education Centre for Dog Trainers.

I have also studied in the UK with world-renowned Norwegian dog trainer, Turid Rugaas, who received a badge of honour from the Norwegian King, recognising her lifetime contribution to the field of canine behaviour and welfare.

Before moving to Scotland in 2015, I ran a boarding kennel for dogs in Norway for 12 years which meant I had the privilege of caring for a wide range of dogs and observing a variety of canine behaviour.

I’m committed to constantly improving my knowledge and skills by studying and keeping up with the latest research from the world’s leading canine cognitive scientists.

I want my clients - dog owners - to feel empowered knowing that they are doing the very best they can for their beloved dogs.
